What is Urologic Cancer?

Urologic Cancer

Urologic cancers are cancers that affect the urinary system and male reproductive organs. These include cancers of the prostate, bladder, kidney, testis, and sometimes the ureter and urethra. The symptoms can be mild in early stages, which is why timely evaluation and screening are important.

Treatment depends on the type and stage of cancer and may include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, or a combination approach. A personalized plan is made based on reports, overall health, and patient needs.

Common Symptoms & When to Consult

If you notice urinary symptoms that persist for more than 2 weeks, or any blood in urine, consult a doctor for evaluation. Early diagnosis helps in better treatment results.

  • Blood in urine (hematuria): Even a single episode should be evaluated.
  • Frequent urination: Especially at night or with urgency.
  • Pain or burning while urinating: Persistent discomfort not improving.
  • Weak urine stream: Difficulty starting or stopping urine flow.
  • Lower back or flank pain: Pain on one side or persistent back pain.
  • Pelvic discomfort: Ongoing pressure or heaviness.
  • Unexplained weight loss / fatigue: Along with reduced appetite.

Diagnosis may include urine tests, ultrasound, CT/MRI, PSA test (for prostate), cystoscopy (for bladder), and biopsy. Treatment is planned based on staging and patient comfort.
