What is Gynaecologic Cancer?

Gynaecologic Cancer

Gynaecologic cancers are cancers that occur in the female reproductive system. These include cancers of the cervix, ovaries, uterus (endometrium), vulva, and vagina. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are important for better outcomes.

Treatment depends on the type and stage of cancer and may include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or a combination approach. Many cases, especially cervical cancer, can be detected early through regular screening.

Common Symptoms & When to Consult

If you experience any symptoms that persist for more than 2 weeks, consult a doctor for evaluation. Many conditions can be non-cancerous, but early check-up helps in timely diagnosis.

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding: Bleeding between periods, after intercourse, or after menopause.
  • Unusual vaginal discharge: Foul-smelling, watery, or blood-stained discharge.
  • Pelvic pain: Persistent lower abdominal or pelvic pain.
  • Bloating or swelling: Ongoing bloating, fullness, or increased abdominal size.
  • Pain during intercourse: Discomfort or pain that continues.
  • Frequent urination: Urgency or feeling of pressure on the bladder.
  • Unexplained weight loss / fatigue: Persistent weakness or reduced appetite.

Diagnosis may include pelvic examination, Pap smear, HPV testing, ultrasound, CT/MRI, and biopsy. Treatment planning is personalized based on reports, staging, and patient needs.
